Artist Statement
Ansie Holman
Retirement to Waynesville, North Carolina has opened the door to a vast array of new opportunities for me as an artist. One of the most rewarding has been my discovery of clay – exploring, molding, shaping, embracing the joy of creating beautiful and functional pottery.
To work within nature’s framework – trees, flowers, leaves, soil, clay – inspires me. As I touch, mold, sculpt the clay, I experience excitement, creativity, serenity, and calm. My greatest joy would be that through my work others awaken or renew their awareness of nature’s magnificent beauty.
Biography
I was born and raised in northern New Jersey. Following an education at William Smith College and Fairleigh Dickinson University my husband and I moved to the nation’s capital area where we started our family. From there we moved to upper New York State, and then returned to the central part of New Jersey where I pursued a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Next stop: Waynesville, North Carolina – and it was here that I discovered clay! My artistic growth and development have been nurtured in a studio setting as well as continuing my education by taking workshops with accomplished artists, among them Alice Ballard and Akira Sataki. I am blessed to be able to focus on family, friends, art, gardening, and community service – what a wonderful life!
